mission
Throughout the last 35 years Glengormley Methodist Youth Choir has travelled all over the world spreading the gospel. These mission trips have given members the opportunity to encounter and seek God in many different ways. So what does the future hold for GMYC and Mission?
Currently GMYC are planning another America Mission trip, which will possibly take place in August 2011. Obviously it is early days to be saying for certain but if the choir feels God is calling them back, then the group will go and all for the glory of God.

GMYC USA Texas tour 2008
On the 11th July 2008 Glengormley Methodist Youth Choir set off on a three week mission tour of Texas USA. Seventy five people including two babies met at GMC at approximately 4.00am keen to get going on their long journey. After everything was loaded up on the vans (thanks to Carrick Elim) the whole group met in the main church hall and Leader Jack said a few words and prayed for the weeks ahead. Morale was extremely high and the excitement could be felt by everyone.
We set off on our journey to Dublin by coach arriving at the airport in good time and a few hours later we were on our way to the USA!! A late arrival into Newark NY left us with only ten minutes to catch the connecting flight to Dallas! It was literally a drop’n ‘go situation to get our baggage and run for the next flight! Going through customs was a bit of a scary experience as the officials weren’t exactly friendly! When we eventually arrived in Dallas everyone was really tired yet excited as we were met by a crowd of people from St Andrews United Methodist Church with signs welcoming GMYC.
After a short drive we arrived at our final destination our long journey over and our excitement was building up again!!. We walked into to St Andrews church to find a feast of pizzas and sodas waiting for us! After eating our fill we met our hosts and went home with them for the evening. I think everyone will agree that the hosts in all the churches truly spoilt us with their friendliness and their hospitality. Over the next few days in Arlington we had a great time of fellowship and worship together in the services and concerts which we took part in. We still had free time for shopping Pool parties* barbecues and not forgetting the mighty Six Flags theme park.
After Arlington we then left for Copperas Cove. We arrived at Coppers Cove, again excited and eager to start our mission .The people were great, the church was lovely, the pastor was a nice friendly guy, it was fantastic! We met our hosts again and stayed there for a few days. We did 2 concerts one In Grace United Methodist Church and one in a place called Faith Temple .The choir was truly blessed by everyone at Copperas Cove and we all enjoyed our time there. Next stop San Antonio around a two hour drive away.
We arrived in San Antonio @ approximately 7.30pm at University Presbyterian Church. We set up for the next night and left with our hosts some from the Presbyterian Church and some from the United Methodist Church. San Antonio was a great place to stay and we had free time to see lots of the sights including Sea World, a boat tour of the River Walk and the very famous historic city. We did three morning services in Coker before leaving San Antonio. The choir really enjoyed San Antonio and our hosts once again were really generous, friendly and welcoming.
Next Stop Fredericksburg, We arrived at 1st Kerrville UMC late at night and we basically just went home with our hosts for the evening. Over the next few days in Fredericksburg we went to various attractions, some people went into Austin to shop and see the sights but the highlight for most would have to be the river where we were able to swim, canoe and kayak. This was a great day! We put on a few concerts in different churches in Fredericksburg all of which were truly awesome and our time there was a real blessing for us all.
We then left Fredericksburg to travel to our final destination - Denton! Denton is a place the choir have visited several times on previous tours as Glengormley Methodist have strong links with Rev. Matt Gaston and his wife Camey from the Denton Wesley Foundation. Our time in Denton was again a really wonderful experience, the concerts and services were really fantastic. We even had the privilege of being on TV as one of our Sunday services was broadcast on a local channel .A highlight of our stay in Denton had to be a football match with a 2-1 win for Glengormley.….
Our time in the USA had to come to an end and we all really did have a wonderful time of fun & fellowship together. We are already hoping to return so bring on the 2011 tour!! Thanks to Joanne, Maria and all who helped make it possible. A big thanks to Jack Audley for all his hard work and dedication to the choir as without him it wouldn’t have happened.
